How to add a timer to Google Forms

Google Forms is great for quizzes and surveys, but it does not include a native countdown timer. If you need everyone to finish in the same window, you need an add-on.

Install Form Timer

Open the Google Workspace Marketplace, install Timer for Google Forms, then launch it from the Add-ons menu on any form.

Configure the countdown

Choose how many minutes respondents get. Optionally set a start date and end date so the form only accepts answers during your exam window.

Review times in Sheets

Link responses to a Google Sheet. Form Timer adds timing fields so you can see start time and duration next to each submission.
